It’s as a proud first-time mama that I interrupt our regular blog programming to bring you news of the latest Rachel’s List recruit: Charlie, who is now a week and a half old and so adorably delicious, if I do say so myself.
Here he is enjoying his morning nap in our bed (not sure if that’s a good idea, but our discussions with him about sleeping in his cot have reached a stalemate).
I’m not going back to work for several months and that’s the first time in 14 years of freelancing that I’ve had such a huge chunk of time off. It was hard to get my head around at first, but I have to say I’m just loving looking after Charlie … and looking AT Charlie … and covering those chubby cheeks with kisses 24/7. This parenthood caper is the rollercoaster everyone promised me, and then some, but amazing all the same.
I’m still around and will be blogging from time to time here, but when it comes to jobs and shout-outs and approvals and all other bits and bobs, you’re all in good hands with Leo and Indri who are handling the day-to-day running of Rachel’s List until I’m back on deck. If you have any queries just get in touch with them via our contact page.
And in the meantime, feel free to pass on your tips for getting a sweet but determined bubba to sleep more (ha), preferably in his cot.
Congratulations Rachel – Charlie is gorgeous. This will be the start of life-long love affair – I speak from experience!
All the best,
Oh he is gorgeous, Rachel! Congratulations xx
Congratulations and don’t fret about sleeping arrangements. As I responded to a woman who was alarmed that that my toddler son still favoured my bed over his, “He won’t be sleeping here when he’s 16.” I was right, and now I wonder where those precious early years went. Relish this time!
Congratulations Rachel! Well done to you all! He looks very cute!
He’s a darling. Congrats! I think it’s fine and dandy for him to nap in your bed. Not that what I think matters. Motherhood is about finding your own way. As you have noticed, it’s also a negotiation. Some babies will go to sleep with music, some with rocking or walking or car rides, some with feeding. Some dear little angels will only sleep when they feel like it. Enjoy becoming a Charlie whisperer!
Congratulations on your gorgeous bundle of love. He is delectable.
I had three little moppets and was never admitted to the secret society of sleeping babies. (I even had one thrown out of the hospital baby nursery for upsetting all the other sweet babies!).
Goodluck on your mummy journey, fasten your seat belt.
Congrats, he is lovely!
Congratulations, Rachel! Such happy news, and such a cutie. Enjoy those newborn snuggles.
What a beautiful baby, congratulations Rachel, you are so clever! Enjoy! There’s nothing quite so intoxicating as new baby smells, and no better way to spend a day than gazing adoringly at your new little person xxx
Congratulations Rachel! He’s beautiful 🙂
Congratulations Rachel! My bundle of joy is now 2 and sleeps in his cot, but I wouldn’t be worried about Charlie sleeping with you at under 2 weeks old. He wants to be close to his mummy at this age – one of the best pieces of advice that anyone gave me was the 12-month ‘rule’ from the baby health nurse: Baby spends 9 months in the womb and then the first 3 months by mummy’s boob. Angus slept in our room until he was 6 months old – sometimes in bed with me for day sleeps (when he actually slept during the day that is) and usually at night in his bassinet. I’d give him an item of clothing I’d worn like a t-shirt as the scent of mummy calmed him as well. All the best and I look forward to reading more mummy blogs!
Congratulations, Rachel! Enjoy your special time with him, and the myriad of changes you’ll experience, as he changes in the next 12 months and counting. As Pamela says, motherhood is about finding your way and what works for you and your baby. All best wishes,
Thanks so much everyone – for all the congrats and advice. I am going with the flow for now and just doing what works as Charlie seems to be making all the rules right now 🙂
